With macro, microscope and long telephoto lens photography as well as with copy work, very precise focusing is essential due to the shallow depth-of-field. The Magnifier AR enlarges the viewfinder's centre, where the focusing aids like split-image indicator and microprism field reside. Because of the magnification of the viewfinder image, even more precise focusing is enabled. The magnification ratio of the Magnifier AR is 2x.
The image of the Konica magnifier is bright and sharp. It's optical construction consists of 4 elements in 3 groups. It provides a built-in diopter correction from +3 to -7 diopters, so users with bad eyesight get a sharp viewfinder image even without eyeglasses.
The magnifier has no eye-cup like the 
angle finders, but a rubber pad on it's eyepiece, so that eyeglasses won't be scratched when using the magnifier.
As with the magnifier you can see only the centre area of the viewfinder and it's not possible to see the whole viewfinder image, the magnifier can be flipped upwards. In this position, it's possible to see the whole viewfinder image for composition by normal use of the viewfinder eyepiece without having to remove the magnifier.

Main disadvantage of the separate Magnifier AR is, that it it not possible to use it together with an angle finder at the same time. Both magnifier and angle finder are very helpful accessories with macro and copy work. Therefore, in the late angle finder Angle-Magnifinder AR, a magnifier was integrated – with this angle finder you can switch between 1:1 representation of the whole viewfinder image and 2-fold magnification of the viewfinder's centre with a lever – without having to change accessories on the camera body. This is much more handy with macro and copy work than separate accessories that have to be changed.

The Magnifier AR is designed for the screw-in thread of the round camera eyepieces of the older body models up to the Autoreflex T3N. For use on the rectangular eyepieces of the later bodies , the Eyepiece Converter AR is required.
